Now that’s what we call a party.
You are bound to find a combination that suits even the fussiest of eaters.
The choice of three loaf sizes makes this machine ideal for both large and smaller families. You won’t have to worry about excess or wastage, as the 1lb option is perfect for small bakes.
We found this option particularly useful when experimenting with new recipes.
Here’s a great videos on delicious 1 lb loaf recipes you can try with the T-fal ActiBread:
As well as regular bread options, you also have a choice of three gluten-free options:
- Gluten-Free Salty
- Gluten-Free Sweet
- Gluten-Free Cake
Unlike other machines with gluten-free settings, you aren’t limited to just one option and the choice of three is great for individuals with gluten-free diets.
We especially found the gluten-free cake option the most helpful, as it’s really difficult to find decent gluten-free cakes anywhere!
Plus, and we’ll go more into this in the below review, but the quality of the gluten free bakes produced by the T-fal PF311E is truly excellent.
15-Hour Delay-Start Option and Keep Warm Mode
You can leave your bread to bake overnight and wake up to the smell of a delicious, freshly baked loaf in the morning.
A 15-hour delay is significantly longer than the standard 12 or 13 hours you get with most bread machines.
You won’t have to worry about the bread getting cold either because this breadmaker automatically switches over to Keep Warm mode for up to an hour, keeping your bakes toasty for that little while longer.
With this sort of price, you expect some extra goodies with your machine. Luckily, T-Fal didn’t disappoint. The bread maker comes with some great accessories, including:
- A measuring cup
- Measuring spoon
- Kneading blade
- A recipe book with 25 tasty bread maker recipes for getting started.
T-Fal PF311E ActiBread Programmable Bread Machine Review
Really Delicious Loaves
The number one marker of whether you’ve got a good bread machine on your hands is how good the loaves are that it produces.
We’re pleased to say that, of the very many recipe we tested, the T-fal PF311 ActiBread performed above and beyond what we expected each and every time.
Providing you follow the recipes carefully, you can expect light and fluffy breads, evenly baked and beautifully browned.
We were especially impressed by the delicious gluten free bread it produced — some of the best we have ever tasted!
Gluten-Free Made Simple
Undoubtedly the best feature on this machine is the different gluten-free options.
If you follow a gluten-free diet, you won’t be limited to only one option like most bread machines. The three different settings allow you to explore a range of different gluten-free recipes.
It’s worth noting that you can’t select the full range of sizes for gluten-free breads. Gluten free bread and gluten free sweet bread can only be used on the 2 lb setting and gluten free cake is only available in 1.5 lbs.
Easy to Use
The T-fal PF311E ActiBread programmable bread machine is straightforward, simple, and user-friendly.
The LCD screen is large and easy to follow for choosing and viewing your options, and the control panel is easy to understand and operate.
You simply load all of your ingredients into the bread pan, then select your program setting, weight, and the browning level – and push the start button. It really is that simple!
It’s not difficult to set up either, so if you are new to bread machines, you can get started straight away.
A Diverse Recipe Book
You can discover more than just freshly baked bread with this breadmaker. If you are an experienced baker and looking for new ideas, the extra options of pizza and jam are great for you.
This machine allows you to bake cakes, jam, pasta, and pizza dough as well as just bread. It is so simple and straightforward too: just place the ingredients into the bread pan and use the dedicated automatic program you need.
Easy to Clean
One of our favorite underrated features on this T-fal PF311E is the non-stick inner pan. It makes food release straightforward and it is also very simple to clean up afterward. If you have used other bread machines, then you will be familiar with the nightmare of cleaning them.
Luckily this isn’t the case with T-Fal. The great quality of non-stick leaves hardly any bread on the pan, and any remnants that are left can be taken care of with a wet sponge and then a quick rinse.
Other Things We Love:
- Beeper for adding in mix-ins
- 7 minute protection time for power cuts
- The hook accessory for neatly removing the kneading paddle if it gets stuck
Although this machine will seem like a dream breadmaker, we did come across some disadvantages with the machine.
No Fruit and Nut Dispenser
Annoyingly for such a high quality bread machine, the T-fal PF311E ActiBread doesn’t have any space for storing your fruit and nuts if you want to add mix-ins to your loaves.
There is a beeper that indicates the optimal time for adding in these additional ingredients, so it is certainly possible but a little more manual work than is ideal. Plus, if you’re in bed and cooking overnight, or out at work while your loaf is cooking during the day, you’re obviously going to miss have any mix-ins in your bread.
Oddly Shaped Loaves
Although this bread machine produces some great tasting bread, the bread pan is so shaped that loaves come out a little square shaped, so they won’t look like traditional bread brought from a bakery.
This is unlikely to be a deal breaker, but worth considering especially if you sell your bread to other people.
Limitations on the Delayed Start Option
While we love the option of a huge 15 hour delayed start, it turns out that in reality, you can only use this function on the following bake settings:
- Rapid whole wheat
- Whole wheat
- Rapid sweet
So that means it can’t be used on any of the gluten-free programs which is a little disappointing. This is in addition to having loaf size restrictions on the gluten-free options too, so you may want to consider a different machine if this is important to you.
There’s no doubt that the T-fal PF311E ActiBread bread machine produces some incredible loaves of bread. It’s also got a huge number of settings, is great for people on a gluten-free diet and is easy to use to boot.
It’s not perfect — the price is on the higher side and it’s missing some desired features, like a fruit and nut dispenser, for instance.
If you’re committed to creating delicious bakes, however, this could well be the bread machine for you.
Where to Buy the T-fal PF311E ActiBread
The T-fal PF331E is one of the most popular bread machines on the market, thanks to its gluten free offerings and overall quality, so consequently you’ll be able to find it in plenty of stores, both online and in person.
Here’s a few online retailers that have it in stock, for instance:
