4.5-Qt. Stainless Steel Bowl
The KitchenAid Classic Plus comes with a 4.5-quart stainless steel bowl.
That gives you enough room to mix dough for up to six dozen cookies, three loaves of bread, or six pounds of mashed potatoes in one single bowl.
The bowl is also dishwasher-safe, so you don’t have to worry about cleanup after.
This mixer also comes with 10 different speeds for all of your mixing needs.
The lowest speed is the stir speed, which is very gentle, working best to fold in ingredients and ensure you don’t splatter yourself with batter or flour.
Speed 2 is a little faster, but you can use this speed for mixing and kneading bread doughs, mixing mashed potatoes, or mixing thinner batters.
Speed 4 is the medium speed, used for mixing and beating slightly heavier batters. Think cookie doughs, cakes, and for creaming butter and sugar together.
Speed 6 is also for creaming as well as beating or whipping. This is great for mixing cake batters which require a higher speed.
Speed 8 is meant for whipping things like egg whites and whipping cream.
Speed 10 is only for the fastest style of whipping. You would use this for egg whites and for making whipped cream.
Speeds 3, 5, 7 & 9 can be obtained by setting the control between the speeds mentioned above. You would use these selections if the even-numbered speeds are just a little off from what you really need.
The KitchenAid Classic Plus is a tilt-back design, meaning that instead of lifting the bowl up and down, you tilt the mixer head up and down for the beater to meet the ingredients in the bowl.
As with all KitchenAid Stand Mixers, the Classic Plus’s head is also a powered hub that turns your stand mixer into a full-bodied kitchen powerhouse.
There are 12+ attachments you can buy. Whether you want to make your own pasta, quickly grate your own cheese, or make your own sausage, KitchenAid has an attachment for that.
59-Point Planetary Mixing Action
59-Point Planetary Mixing Action means that the beater, dough hook, or whisk will hit 59 different touchpoints per rotation around the bowl so that the ingredients are thoroughly mixed together.
The beaters rotate around the bowl covering almost every point. Nothing will be missed.
The KitchenAid Classic Plus Stand Mixer comes with:
- A coated flat beater
- A coated dough hook
- A wire whip
- A few recipes to get you started
The flat beater and dough hook are also dishwasher-safe.
KitchenAid Classic Plus Series 4.5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Review
With its all-metal gear system, the Classic Plus packs plenty of power to mix up whatever you want to make.
Cakes, cookies, breads, or pastries – this mixer will take it all.
It will mix or knead or whip whatever you need, so long as the model which arrives at your door is free of defects; if it isn’t, time to use that warranty!
Speaking of warranty, KitchenAid offers a 1-year warranty with this stand mixer should any problems arise.
Should your mixer be faulty or you encounter unresolvable issues during the first year of owning it, the company promises to replace your mixer without any hassle.
The replacement you receive will also be covered by a 1-year hassle-free warranty. How great is that?
While no one wants to have to use their warranty, or replace their product, having this policy in place shows that the company really backs their products and cares about their customers, all while saving you the worry.
Note that the warranty doesn’t cover any damages due to accidents or issues caused by the owner so be sure to take really good care of your mixer.
Easy to Clean
You also don’t have to worry about handwashing or babying your mixer bowl or your mixing attachments.
We know how daunting cleaning can be for bakers, especially after spending hours whipping up the perfect recipe. But the KitchenAid Classic Plus Stand Mixer makes tidying up super easy.
The bowl and all the beaters are dishwasher-safe, making it easy to handle that one last step after baking. No more worrying about cleanup. We know you bakers can get messy!
The all-metal construction also means this mixer will rarely let you down. It was built to last for years to come.
In multiple reviews users mentioned how they’ve had theirs for over a decade and it was still running strong. So you can bet on this mixer to keep churning out your favorite recipes.
Great for Beginners
You don’t have to be an expert baker to use this machine. This machine is very easy to use, even older children and teenagers have started their baking journey on it!
The controls are pretty basic, and set-up is a breeze so you won’t have to do much fumbling before you get started. While it’s great for starters, it doesn’t fall short when aiming to satisfy more advanced bakers as well.
This makes it great for those just looking to bake a few batches of cookies, and those looking to grow with their KitchenAid.
While a warranty is offered, should the damage be caused by the owner, replacing parts on the mixer yourself is also an easy task.
Replacement parts for KitchenAid mixers are common and inexpensive making the job less of a hassle than it could be.
You’ll have a plethora of recipes to try at your disposal. From making a cake for a special occasion or whipping up some dough for a fresh loaf, the options are near endless.
With the addition of the multipurpose attachment hub, these options skyrocket. There are over twelve attachments that can be used with this mixer from cutting pasta to grating cheese.
This stand mixer can easily become your one-stop shop.
There were a few reviews that mentioned issues with the mixer getting hot after using it for a while.
KitchenAid mixers have a shut-off function if they overheat, so you won’t be risking a fire even if yours expresses this issue, but nonetheless – from a brand like KitchenAid, it’s a surprising defect and one that could severely halt your progress during busy holidays or dinners.
Coating on the Beaters
A number of our testers mentioned that the enamel coating on the flat beater and the dough hook began peeling off while they were in the process of mixing something.
Putting aside whether the coating is harmless or not, having part of a mixer you spent hundreds of dollars on end up in your food is pretty disappointing.
Trouble with Heavier Doughs
There were also a few testers who mentioned that the Classic Plus could not handle heavier doughs despite what KitchenAid says it can do.
If you are making bread dough a lot – or even once every couple of weeks – this may not be the mixer for you.
The mixer seemed to overheat after one or two batches of heavier dough, since its motor was overworked by the task.
Relatively speaking, this mixer has a smaller motor, so it really wasn’t made for continuous heavy mixing, but since it promises extreme power, it should live up to it.
No Handle on Bowl
Users also mentioned that they would have liked to have a handle on the bowl. While other KitchenAid mixers do come with handles, the Classic Plus does not.
It would be easier to grab the bowl off the mixer and just carry it in general if it had a handle.
While it probably isn’t a negative (or a surprise) that this mixer is heavy – being made entirely of metal – it is something you should be aware of.
This is probably not an issue for bakers with a fixed workspace or for basic home use, but if you intended to haul it to and from cooking class, we suggest you reconsider.
Here’s a video showing what the KitchenAid Classic Plus Stand Mixer looks like out of the box.
After comparing the good and bad features, we are going to cautiously recommend the KitchenAid Classic Plus Series 4.5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer.
While the capacity, the ability to put the bowl and the beaters in the dishwasher, and the all-metal construction is impressive, the issues with overheating and the coating peeling off of the beaters is troublesome.
If you are just baking once in a while, this might be just the mixer you need, but if you are a really avid baker, or a baker with a small business it’s wise to pass this one on.
