Features
Baking Settings
Making your job easier are the 14 pre-programmed settings on the Breadman BK1050S.
They include:
- White
- White Rapid
- Whole Wheat
- Whole Wheat Rapid
- French
- French Rapid
- Sweet Bread
- Quick Bread
- Low Carb
- Gluten-Free
- Dough
- Artisan Dough
- Jam
- Bake Only
Rapid bakes don’t always turn out splendid, with either the dough not mixing well or not cooking through completely during the bake, but we found little issue with the rest of the settings.
14 different bake programs is very generous from Breadman — particularly for a bread maker at this price point. Our favorite has to be the artisan dough setting, which is only usually included in much more sophisticated (read: expensive) machines.
Automatic Fruit and Nut Dispenser
This handy feature makes creating bread with fruit and/or nuts a whole lot easier.
All you have to do is chop them up, pop them in the compartment, and the Breadman will add them in to the mix for you at the appropriate time.
Simple and easy — and no need to babysit!
Collapsible Kneading Paddle
In order to achieve more professional and aesthetically pleasing loaves, Breadman has created a kneading paddle that folds down before the baking begins.
This ensures a flatter, smoother bottom crust, and removes the task of digging a paddle out of your baked loaf.
Accessories
Along with the breadmaker itself comes a small assortment of accessories; standard stuff for the expert baker but necessities for the inexperienced.
In addition to an adjustable measuring spoon and a collapsible measuring cup, it comes with a robust and simple cookbook packed with recipes ranging from easy to hard.
Altering these recipes can end with a bad bake, however, unless you are willing to cook by trial and error until a balanced formula is discovered.
3 Loaf Sizes
Not everyone has a large family to feed or can get through a 2 lb loaf before it goes bad.
Handily, the Breadman BK1050S Professional Bread Maker comes with three loaf size settings: 1 lb, 1-1/2 lb, and 2 lb. The customisation here is a pleasing addition.
3 Crust Options
You have the choice of light, medium, and dark crusts with every bake. Standard on most machines, but always good to have.
15-Hour Delay Timer
This feature is perfect for people who are on the go and want to come home to fresh, warm bread at the end of the day. Being able to delay the bake for up to 15 hours ensures a flexible baking schedule.
Plus, the fact that there’s no loud beeping from the fruit and nut dispenser means that you can schedule your Breadman BK1050S to run during the night.
Is there anything better than waking up to a fresh loaf of bread?!
1 Hour Keep Warm Setting
No fuss if you don’t hear the beep of a finished bake, as the Breadman will automatically keep your loaf toasty warm for up to an hour after completion.
Large Viewing Window
We know that we’re not the only ones who like to check on their loaf’s progress.
The viewing window in the BK1050S is one of the more generous sized ones we’ve seen.

The Positives
Bakes Good Loaves
The Breadman BK1050S generally performs very well and can be relied upon to create super tasty baked goods time and again.
Thanks to the collapsible paddle, these loaves don’t only taste good, but they look good too — with no unsightly holes at the bottom, at any rate.
Time and effort has gone into designing the shape and structure of the Breadman in order to achieve uniform texture and colour in every bake.
Fear not bake sales or catering for a luncheon, as the Breadman has got you covered, ensuring that every loaf comes out perfect.
Doesn’t Require Babysitting
One of our pet peeves when it comes to bread makers is when the machine lets off a loud beeping noise to let you know that it’s time to add your mix-ins.
There’s none of this trouble with the BK1050S as they’ve automated this action for us. No need to stay in the kitchen during the bake cycle!
Versatile
With a massive 14 different settings, 3 crust colors and 3 sizes, you can really do quite a bit of experimentation with this Breadman machine.
It’s one of the most generous bread makers we’ve spotted in this price bracket, and we love having the option to make low-carb and gluten free loaves, as well as artisan bakes.
We’ve found that the quality of baking stays high regardless of what size or setting you decide upon — aside from the fast bakes, which we’ll get to shortly.
Other Things We Love:
- It’s easy to clean
- It looks sleek and modern on your kitchen counter
- Very clear recipe book with handy yeast comparison chart
The Negatives
Not So Great on Rapid Bakes
While the baking quality of the Breadman BK1050S is generally very high, we weren’t particularly impressed with it on the rapid bake settings.
What it makes up for in speed, it sacrifices in even quality. We found that loaves weren’t as evenly mixed and cooked as with the standard speed programs.
A pity, because otherwise we’d seriously consider making this our favorite mid-market bread machine!
Paddle Problems
While we didn’t experience this during our testing, we think it’s worth including anyhow.
Some buyers have found that the collapsible paddle will occasionally scrape the bottom of the non-stick tray during the mixing and kneading phases. This obviously risks flecks of Teflon making their way into your loaf — not ideal, by any stretch.
This isn’t a common problem, but it’s definitely worth looking out just in case you have a defective machine.
Poor LCD Display
For whatever reason, the LCD display on the top of the Breadman is poorly lit and difficult to read – especially if your kitchen isn’t well lit.
Disappointing, considering it looks so good otherwise!
Noisy
Straight up, this is not the quietest bread machine we’ve encountered.
During the mixing process especially, there can be a slight rattling. If you’re running the BK1050S through the night or require a silent kitchen appliance, you may need to look elsewhere.
Overall Verdict
The Breadman BK1050S 2 lb Professional Breadmaker is a well-rounded and reasonably priced machine, capable of easing new and inexperienced bakers into the art of bread making.
We would recommend it, although with the caveat that it’s not nearly so good on the rapid bake settings as the rest of the programs. We’d also warn you to look out for the collapsible paddle scraping the bottom of the bread pan.

MBAH Verdict
The Breadman BK1050S 2 lb Professional Bread Maker has the potential to be a fantastic machine — it makes good loaves, is reasonably priced and will look good on your kitchen counter.
But there are a couple of flaws holding it back, namely its below-par rapid bake settings, crappy LCD screen and occasional paddle glitch.
